چکیده

Casting has many process variations depending upon the material, the type of pattern, mould and the pouring technique like sand casting, investment casting, die casting, squeeze casting and lost foam casting. Sand casting is the most widely used process which can be used to produce intricate parts in almost every metal that can be melted. Casting defects analysis is process of finding the root cause of occurrence of defects in the rejection of casting and taking necessary steps to reduce the defects and to improve the casting yield. The design of gating system in most foundries is very much of an individual art based on the experience of the foundry man and the collective experience of foundry men in developing the castings. In this paper the discussion about optimization of yield of casting is done by modifying and optimizing the existing gating system. A gating system is essentially the plumbing network through which molten metal is introduced to the mold cavity of the casting; the conduit network through which liquid metal enters a mold and flows to fill the mold cavity, where the metal can then solidify to form the desired casting shape.

Numerical Optimization of Grey C.I. Casting using Simulation

Foundries represent an important sector of the manufacturing industry and these foundry industries in developing countries suffer from poor quality and productivity due to number of process parameters involved in the casting process. Even in a completely controlled process, defects in casting are observed and hence casting process is also known as process of uncertainty which challenges explana...

MOLD FILLING BEHAVIOR OF DOUBLE GATING SYSTEM IN ALUMINUMLFC PROCESS

The mold-filling behavior in the casting of aluminum alloy (A413) using lost foam casting (LFC) was explored. The effects of gate numbers, type of gating and casting thickness on the filling behavior were evaluated. Although, unlike convectional casting process, the gating system showed little effect onfilling ability, casting thickness created a greater effect on the mold filling. In contrast ...

The Effects of Gating Systems on the Soundness of Lost Foam Casting (LFC) Process of Al-Si Alloy (A.413.0)

The effects of gating systems, number of runner, and their locations, in the Lost Foam Casting (LFC) of Aluminum alloy (A.413.0) were investigated. Six different gating systems, with one or two running systems were designed. X-ray radiography and the three axis-bending tests have been employed to evaluate the casting soundness and quality. The results revealed that gating systems have a major e...

Design Optimization of Gating System by Fluid Flow and Solidification Simulation for Front Axle Housing

In spite of knowledge of conventional gating design casting defects such as shrinkage and gas porosities were found in front axle housing a critical automotive component. This component is generally made out of spheroidal graphite iron. A flawed gating system was found to be the reason for improper fluid flow and melt solidification which in turn produced casting defects. Optimization of the ga...
